How many different types of artificial nails out there?

Sometimes, maintaining natural nails in the perfect condition is challenging. That is why most women opt for artificial nails when attending special occasions and don’t have enough time for the salon. These days, it is hard to distinguish between natural and artificial nails. You can choose between at least four types of artificial nails.

Most of the salons offer acrylic artificial nails, wraps, press-on nails, and gel nails. Each type of artificial nails comes with a different composition and is made from a unique technique. Though fake nails can be stronger than natural ones, you still need to take care of them properly to enjoy them for longer. Let us look at each type individually.

Acrylic nails

Nail salons that offer this type of artificial nails make use of chemicals to make them. They apply a liquid compound on the nail then use a polymer powder on it. After the application, the nail is shaped into a desired style and length.

Acrylic nails are quite common in many nail salons. People choose them since they are more long-lasting than other forms and don’t damage the natural nail. You will also not spend too much getting these nails. The problem with acrylic nails is that they are prone to fungal infection if you don’t maintain them properly.

Gel nails

If you don’t want to deal with a yellowing finish, you can choose gel nails rather than the first type. A liquid chemical is used in the making of gel nails. The nail is then placed under a UV lamp for curing. After the process, it is shaped accordingly.

These nails look more natural than acrylic nails. They also involve the use of minimal fumes during application. Gel nails may, therefore, not damage your natural nails. You should, however, be ready to spend more to get these nails. The maintenance is also not cheap.

Nail wraps

Do you often deal with broken fingernails? You can boost the condition of your nails by using nail wraps. This type is used to repair the natural nails. Since they can also strengthen the tips of the nails, nail wraps are used as nail extensions. Salons attach fine layers of tissue, linen, or silk on the nail using nail glue. They then pre-shape the nail wraps to make them appear more natural.

This is a good method if you are trying to repair your natural nails. It may not damage your natural nails. The maintenance is also low and less expensive. The problem with nail wraps is that they cannot withstand too much abuse like the rest of the artificial nails. If your nail wraps are made from linen, they may not look very natural. Nail wraps cannot be removed using chemicals.

Press-on nails

If you need a quick fix of your nails for a special occasion, you can choose press-on nails. You can get this type of artificial nails from a drugstore. Press-on nails come in various sizes, shapes, and even colors. They make use of a two-sided tape that connects your natural nail to the artificial one. People choose press-on nails since they are affordable and easy to apply. The problem with this option is that it is quite temporary. They are also prone to wear and have a fake appearance.

 Final thoughts

Just like natural nails, you have to handle artificial nails with a lot of care to avoid any complications and enjoy them. Avoid using these nails as tools since they can get damaged. You also need to use fills to attach them properly.
